LAST BUT NOT LIST

THESIS STATEMENT

 This is the last topic that we need to cover for Technical Communication subject. Do you know what is thesis statement? i also don't know before i learn about that. Ok come..come..lets i explain about thesis statement to all dear friends...

What is a thesis statement?
Thesis statement like you are asked to convince your reader of your point of view. This form of persuasion, often called academic argument, follows a predictable pattern in writing. After a brief introduction of your topic, you state your point of view on the topic directly and often in one sentence. This sentence is the thesis statement, and it serves as a summary of the argument you'll make in the rest of your paper.

Formulating a thesis
  1. Reading an essay assignment  before you develop an argument on any topic,
  2. Collect and organize evidence,
  3. Look for possible relationships between known facts (such as surprising contrasts or similarities)
  4. Think about the significance of these relationships. Once you do this thinking, you will probably have a "working thesis," a basic or main idea, an argument that you think you can support with evidence but that may need adjustment along the way.
example of Thesis statement

1. Thesis Statement
- An improved fitter-type cigarette has a wrapper filled with tobacco and special mouthpiece at one end.

Point
- The improvement of filter-type cigarette
- Include a wrapper filled with tobacco and a special mouthpiece at one end.
- Different contents tobacco in new cigarette improve.

Summarize
The cigarette has a new improval of filter-type cigarette by include a wrapper filled with tobacco and a special mouthpiece at one end.

2. Thesis Statement
- Starting in the 1500s, western ascendancy, which culminated in colonization, eroded once glorious Muslim imperial and reduce the influence of Islam.

Point
-The influence of muslim empires are reduced when western ascendancy, which culmination in colonization.
- The beginning of Islam influence down when culminated in colonization come.

Summarized
In 1500 years when western ascendancy reduced the muslim empires which culminated in colonization. When culuminated colonization come to the beginning of islam were down.

This thesis statement topic make me more understanding and get me more knowledge to do a summarized. Before this i am not able to do summarized  properly because i am not understand very well what the sentence discuss.

ARTICLE REVIEW...!!!??

Think...Think..Think...do you know what is article review? actually to be honest i never heard about article review before this.Very sad right the basic things about learning english i dont know. Ok for those who dont know i will share this information that i have learn in tech com class with you..

Paraphrase : is a summary, written in your own words, briefly restates the writer's main points. Paraphrase, although written in your own words, is used to relate the details or the progression of an idea in your source. Quotation, used sparingly, can lend credibility to your work or capture a memorable passage.

method to paraphrase
  1. Read fast and re-read ( Purposeful )
  2. Circle or highlight the important keyword/keypoint.
  3. Find replacement for the word
  4. Restructure, re-arrange sequences of point
  5. Double check the accuracy again according to the original text.
the example of Paraphrase
    " Of the more than 1000 bicycling deaths each year, three-fourth are caused by head injuries. Half of those killed are school-age children. One study concluded that wearing a bike helmet absorbs the shock and cushions the head."

No
Original
Paraphrase
1
Of more than 1000 bicycling death fourth caused by head injuries
bicycling fatalitier 75%
2
Half are school age children
50% are school children
3
Wearing helmet can reduce head injuries by 85%
minimize/to decrease the accident
4
Helmet absorbs shock and cautions the head
protect impact/force

Other than that we also learn about Timbuktu history. Miss show us some video of Timbuktu then after finish reviewing the video we need to list the main idea and supporting detail about Timbuktu that we understand from the video that we watch. Here i also attach paraphrase that we do about Timbuktu

Main Idea
  • universal learning centre that have monument effect UNESCO
Supporting Detail 1
  •  they have learning center

Supporting Detail 2
  • belong to whole heritage world

Supporting Detail 3
  • a small and poor town that located far away in the middle of savana grassland.

In this topic i have learn how to make the some article or stories more easier for reader to understand some word that to complicated.other than that its also make me more creative to manipulate the word without change the meaning of the article.

" Sentence According To Structure"

      Such a long time that we didnt update our blog..well everyone know nearly to semester end we got so much things to carried out. Perhaps we still not too late to update our blog.
      Ok lets go back to study what we have learn in tech com class.After phonetic symbol we learn sentence structure that have 4 main kind of sentence, which is
a) simple  = content 1 ic ( independent clauses)
b) compound = content 2 ic
c) complex = 1 ic and 1 or more dc ( dependent clauses )
d) compound/complex = 2 or more ic and 1 dc

Independent Clauses is a subject that stand alone
Dependent Clauses is a subject that cannot stand alone

example of Simple sentences
muslim people are fasting                                       muslim people = subject , are = verb
Some students like to study in the mornings.         some student = subject  , like = verb
Juan and Arturo play football every afternoon.      Juan and Arturo = subject , play = verb
Alicia goes to the library and studies every day.    Alicia = subject  , goes and studies =verb

example of Compound sentences
A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinator. The coordinators are as follows: for, and, nor, but, or, yet,and so.

 I tried to speak Spanish, and my friend tried to speak English.
Alejandro played football, so Maria went shopping.
Mila doing homework, but siti going to sleep

example of Complex sentences
A complex sentence has an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses. A complex sentence always has a subordinator such as because, since, after, although, or when or a relative pronoun such as that, who, or which.

When he handed in his homework, he forgot to give the teacher the last page.
The teacher returned the homework after she noticed the error.
The students are studying because they have a test tomorrow.
After they finished studying, Juan and Maria went to the movies.

example of Compound/Complex sentences
sentences containing adjective clauses (or dependent clauses) are also complex because they contain an independent clause and a dependent clause.

Although most terrorist believe the decrease will come soon, customer confident remain strong and most business have not initiated significant restructures.

IC = customer confident remain strong
         have not initiated
DC = most terrorist believe

By learning this sentences structure i have more confident to make a sentences and  improve my knowledge in english especially to create a good sentences.

Thursday class 19th August 2010

On Thursday we play one game.Mostly we hear and play the musical chair but this time have a little bit different.When music play we need to past the short story script that written in phonetic symbol to other group.When music stop we need to translate the story in normal word.Then music play again and we need to past the script again then translate again and again.

Lastly we need to choose who's story that we want to translate properly.Then we need to read it in front of class.Like "American Got Talent" but Ms Cheah said we change to "IPROM Got Talent" that we need to vote for group that we don't like.Time was taken when we read that story.When all group put up their hand that's mean we need to stop our reading and time taken was stop also.Who can read in longest time they are the winner.But sadly we lost in that game.We got 2nd place from back...hahaha...But everything was very-very fun..
thank you Ms cheah we gain a lot of knowledge and experience on that day..
Last Tuesday Ms Cheah want us to find some short stories then need to write back in phonetic symbol. Then we decided to choose "The Prince And The Pea" that we took from fairytale story.we trying hard to find the phonetic symbol for each word to translate the story.
Very funny when we look what we have wrote.Its look like ancient writing.But when you read it properly it was so nice.We can pronoun certain difficult word correctly.

International Pheonatic Symbols (IPS)

Tuesday morning, we came late again..so terrible..We are really sorry madam. We tried to came early after this.Come back to week 6 learning. Today we learn about International Pheonatic Symbols. We need to find the meaning of some word.

          For example:  Tool = tטіl
                         Took = tטk
                               Short = ×¤ּ:t
                         One   = wΛn
                         Freighter = freitÉ™
                               Show = ∫əט

And now we know how to pronoun correctly by using IPS (International Pheonatic Symbols). For the 1st time we saw this symbol its look weird. But when we understand and know how to pronoun the English word become more interesting to use.

4th Class: Presentation

In this week we need to doing presentation about contextual clues that we take from newspaper article. Each group need to present at least 8 word of contextual clues. But we sadly today because our group is the last one and don't have enough time to present. So our presentation was postpone to the next week classes.

3rd Class: Suffix and Prefix

In 3rd week we learn about suffix and prefix. She told us that suffix is a word which we add or put at the end of the word. Like: Breakable = where is able is suffix word and break is root. Another example is helpful-helpless, full and less are suffix and help is the root. Then prefix are an affix that is joined before a root or stem. The example is the prefix un-attaches to the front of the stem selfish to form the word unselfish. The another one example is:
           dis=apart,away
              - Finance is the art of the passing money from hand to hand until it finally disappears"

Now we already understood what is suffix and prefix. This word we ready use every day without we realize it. Now english become very interesting to us.

2nd Class : What is Contextual Clues??

"Today is the second time we(4RR) went to the Technical Communication class. We're late again.....sorry miss. Today we are just about to begin with the first unit which is Contextual Clues. First and foremost, what is contextual clues? Hard to explain because we're confused too. Miss showed and recited a poem entitled Jabberwocky. This poem is truly recommended by Miss due to the excellent nature of the poem. The poem was based from Alice in Wonderland tale movie. W hen read it, there's a lot that we could'nt digest. But when we were forced to read it again, that is when we're able to understand it a bit. The word of the poem was wonderful and remarkable. Suddenly we felt the pleasure and the excitement. In the end we understood the meaning of contextual clues.

Jabberwocky  by Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, 1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought--
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffing through the tugley wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callosh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were raths borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
